OUR HISTORY

OUR STORY

June 14th to 20th, 2009, was the first World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission trip. From its beginning, the World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission has operated  independently and without the support of churches or other religious organizations.

Grand Master Shin and his students ministered to the spiritually and financially impoverished population in the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico. These people were living lives of hardship, with little hope and much spiritual emptiness. Each year in the month of June, Tae Kwon Do practitioners traveled again to Mexico with the World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission. There, they visited churches, schools, and rural town centers. They participated in worship, demonstrations, and taught people of all ages. Through Tae Kwon Do, they have spread Christ’s message of love, with great faith, joy, and grace. They have made a difference in the lives of others and have grown in their own life, faith, as well as in leadership.

The World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission also raises funds, through various fundraisers, to help people in the Yucatan Peninsula, and to support seminary students. It holds spiritual, prayer, and preparation meetings. Such great work has been accomplished. Tae Kwon Do is a great vehicle to spread Christian values, the wonderful teachings of traditional Martial Arts and to serve others.

ON THE GROUND

The World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission has been spreading the message of Christ in the urban and rural areas of Tennessee, Texas, and Mexico. From small isolated town squares, to schools, and to large city theaters, the missionaries of the World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission have used Tae Kwon Do demonstrations and the instruction of Tae Kwon Do to spread the word of God.

TAKING CARE OF THE YOUTH

The World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission has built a reputation for helping the youth grow into healthy, self-assured individuals who understand the need for unity in their community, their country, and in the world. Through their mission experience, our youth come to understand that God is the master of their lives, and learn to feel comfort under his wing. Therefore, they develop a more humble and altruistic personality and naturally lead.

"The mission trip to the Yucatan Peninsula that we took last year was a fantastic experience. The country and its inhabitants were wonderful. In Mexico, people are beautiful because they are happy with their lives in spite of not having the nice material items that we have in the United States. I realized that there is more to life than just hanging out with friends. Young people can help others. Going on the mission trip was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. I hope to see more young missionaries next year."

STRENGTHENING FAMILIES

Through the World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission, families have been strengthened. Parents and children have traveled together and renewed their bond in Christ. They have left their busy lives and their divisions behind to minister to others. In the process they have become an example of christian unity, respect, altruism, and humility for other families.

"Our family has participated in two mission trips with the World Christian Tae Kwon Do Mission. Each trip had its own unique experiences and provided opportunity for our family to grow together in the Lord.  We were afforded the chance to be free from the demands of “everyday life” and focus completely on showing the love of Jesus Christ to others.    We met and worked alongside wonderful church members, missionaries, seminary students, and members of our extended Tae Kwon Do family.  We  traveled to Mexico with the idea that we would bless the people in an incredibly impoverished area, but we were the ones who were blessed."

BELIZE

Pastor Ernest Betson and Mrs. Carolyn Betson

In 2006, Pastor Betson and his wife Carolyn started a church plant in a impoverished part of Belize City known as “The Burial Grounds.” They began to realize that many of the community's young children did not attend school. A survey of area parents revealed that while they tended to give excuses of financial constraints and distance from schools, education did not seem to be a priority for them. On September 1, 2007, the Betsons opened a pre-school in the new church building. It was located in a swampy area where no one else wanted to build, much less run a school. Since then, the school has grown immensely. As separate facilities were constructed, the community began to respect and appreciate the school, embracing it with love and pride. Children who otherwise would not have access to school are now blessed by being able to learn to read, write and, most importantly, to trust in the Lord Jesus as their Saviour and Provider. Carolyn Betson is now the principal of Unity Presbyterian School of Belize. The school educates 238 students. Ernest Betsonis the pastor of the Belize City-based Unity Presbyterian Church and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.

PASTOR AND PRINCIPAL JULIAN C. CHI SR.

Pastor Chi is Pastor of the Evangelical Community Church and Chapel and Principal of  the School in Orange Walk Town, Belize. The school provides quality education nurturing the total development of the individual, including the spiritual, intellectual, physical, and emotional growth of the students, taking in consideration their social environment. The dedication of Pastor and Principal Chi is exemplary. His work has changed the lives of many children and countless adults.
